Green Box
Mushrooms
Where did your mushroom originate from?
To produce our Green Box Mushrooms, following steps are used:
-
Create mycelium, which acts as the seed, over a period of six weeks.
-
Prepare the substrate, which acts as the soil.
-
Substrate is placed into plastic bags or recycled bottles.
-
Prepared substrate is sterilized at high temperatures for six hours and then cooled for twelve hours.
-
Mushroom mycelium is inoculated into the substrate and incubated for 45 days.
-
After incubation, the substrate is moved to the growing room and cultivated for approximately 10 days.
-
Then grown mushrooms are harvested. The plastic bags are discarded as waste, while the recycled bottles are reused.
At GBM, we repeat this process daily at our Gainesville, GA farm. However, many farms lack the facilities for steps 1 through 5 and simply purchase ready-to-grow substrate, focusing only on cultivation and sales. Most of this ready-to-grow substrate is imported from outside Georgia or even from other countries.
Unfortunately, Georgia does not yet have legal requirements for indicating the “Source of Origin”, making it difficult to know where the mushrooms were produced. However, you can check with the seller for this information.
We sincerely thank you for your love and support of our Green Box Mushrooms fully born and grown in Georgia.
